Fire Safety Tips

The South Adams County Fire Prevention Bureau was established in 1971 with 1 Fire Inspector, today the Fire Prevention Bureau consists the Fire Marshal, two Deputy Fire Marshals, two Fire Inspector's, and one Administrative Assistant.  The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for fire safety inspections of new and existing buildings, reviewing plans of new construction for compliance to meet the requirements of the code and building codes.  The Fire Prevention Bureau also spends many hours conducting public education classes both within the business community instructing adults, and in the local schools instructing children on the many ways of being fire safe.  Examples of fire safety instruction includes proper and safe operation of fire extinguishers, orderly and effective evacuation of buildings including nursing homes and your residence.  Also every year the inspectors visit every elementary school in the area to discuss and reinforce the correct and safe methods of getting out of their house in case of fire, and stressing the importance of not playing with matches, lighters and fire in general.  In addition they respond to fires within the fire district to determine origin and cause of fires, working closely with local law enforcement personnel.
