PERMIT REGULATIONS
Permits are not issued during the Clean Air Campaign November 1st - April 1st
The following is a list of open burning requirements to be followed within the boundaries of the South Adams County Fire District.
1. Permits must be obtained from the Fire Marshal’s Office between 8:00 AM & 5:00 PM Monday thru Friday. 303-288-0835
2. An on site inspection by the Fire Prevention Bureau is Required prior to any permit being issued.
3. Open burning permits shall only be valid from 7:00 AM till sunset. Under no circumstances shall open burning be allowed to continue overnight.
4. Open burning will not be conducted if local wind conditions exceed 5 MPH.
5. All open burning shall be attended, and be supervised by one or more responsible adults, who shall have available proper fire-fighting safeguards (garden hose, adequate water supply, or equivalent).
6. No permit will be issued under any circumstances for burning hazardous or toxic materials.
7. No open burning permits shall be issued during the better air campaign, or other special pollution alerts, or local bans on open burning by local authorities.
8. Permits will not be issued for burning household trash, garbage, tires, rubber, plastics, coated wood products, (paints, varnish, creosote and other surface coatings), wire insulation, or other materials that would produce more smoke than clean burning material.
9. Permits for agricultural open burning include dry cover vegetation, weeds along irrigation ditches and fence lines.
10. Permits are not required for non-commercial cooking of food for human consumption (BBQ, outside grills, ect.), permits are required for open pit cooking in residential areas.
11. In areas where permits are granted for open burning, permission either in writing or verbal must be obtained from neighbors in the immediate vicinity, where allergic reactions or respiratory difficulty caused by smoke or odors of any open burning may occur.
