The South Adams County Volunteer Fire
Department accepts applications year round. Applications can be picked
up at the South Adams County Fire Prevention Bureau Office, 6550 East 72nd
Avenue, Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. or you may
download the application from here at the bottom of the page.
You must
be at least 21 years of age with a good driving record and proof of insurance
on your private vehicle. Once you have turned in your application,
an interview will be scheduled when the Fire Chief calls for new members.
You will be interviewed and your application presented to the department
at three consecutive meetings at which time the membership shall vote.
If you receive a favorable vote you will then be scheduled for a physical
examination which you must initially pay for at a cost of
$350.00 to determine if you are physically able to perform the duties
of a fire fighter (The Cost of the physical is reimbursed after 3 consecutive
years on the department). After successfully completing the physical examination
you will then be brought onto the department as a one-year probationary
member. During the year you will attend training and be certified
in Fire Fighter I, First Responder, and Haz Mat Awareness. You will
also be required to respond to a minimum of 300 calls per year (25 calls
per month) or you must stay at a fire station four times per month for
10 hours per shift and respond to all calls in that stations district during
your shift. During the month of August and the first week of September
each year all probationary and regular members are required to participate in
the departments fundraiser. Upon successful completion of the one-year probationary
period, your name will be brought before the membership of the Volunteer
Fire Department for vote to be a regular member of the Department.
All members of the department are required to attend yearly training and
respond to fire calls or pull shifts at a station. After you become
a regular member of the department you are eligible to attend outside training
paid for by the fire district such as EMT training, Haz Mat training, Special
Teams training, ect….. If you have what it takes to be a Volunteer
Fire Fighter we hope to see you soon on the department.
